ButtHEAD

ButtHEAD is a Monty Python-esque mockumentary theatrical piece that parodies the underbelly of monarchy. Part fashion show and part history lesson, ButtHEAD dazzles with extravagant, custom-designed 18th-century Marie Antoinette-style costumes and interactive play between human and puppet. The piece is a peephole into the Queen’s daily La Toilette ritual, the public display of being dressed and made-up. Four characters—Tour Guide, Queen, Clown and Puppet—will populate the piece each contributing their own distinct energy and perspective. This work critically examines themes of class, gender, sub/dom dynamics, and the fractured nature of time, speaking directly to diverse communities—Queers, the underclass, the freaks, voyeurs, children, kinksters, puppeteers, and clowns. Our goal is to create work that celebrates cracks in the facade, rupture and renewal. Using bouffon, clown, and puppet ethos we place hierarchical structures, time, and scale in front of a funhouse mirror and let the good times roll. Our work invites audiences to engage with the grotesque nature of human desire and power, encouraging a dialogue that is both provocative and liberating.
